Adult Partial Hospitalization Program

The RMHC's Partial Hospitalization Program is a highly structured program for individuals 18 years or older who are experiencing acute symptoms of a mental illness.  The program is a highly structured program that provides daily treatment for a broad range of psychiatric disorders.  The coordinated services are wrapped around the individual's needs.  A multi-disciplinary treatment team is under the direction of a psychiatrist.  The program's primary objective is to reduce psychiatric symptoms, to prevent relapse or hospitalization, and to improve or maintain the individual's level of functioning.
The partial hospitalization program is designed for people who experience psychiatric symptoms so severe that weekly or bi-weekly outpatient therapy services are not sufficient to meet their needs.  The program is often utilized to treat individuals in a more intensive program in an attempt to avoid the need for psychiatric hospitalization. Usually people in the program are experiencing an acute exacerbation of symptoms that interfere with their functioning in the areas of family life, work performance, school performance and/or activies of daily living.   Individuals recently discharged from a psychiatric hospital setting may also benefit from the program to provide them with a short-term intensive intervention designed to assist their integration back into daily living and to prevent re-hospitalization.
The Partial Hospitalization Program consists of six hours of group time per day and several psychiatric consults each week.  An individual's participation in the program typically runs from one to four weeks.  The multi-disciplinary team includes a nurse, psychiatrist, psychologist, social worker, and mental health practitioner.  Group topics include symptom reduction, emotional regulation, relapse prevention therapeutic activity, relaxation techniques and a psychotherapy group.

The RMHC's Partial Hospitalization Program is located at the Perpich Building at 3203 Third Avenue West, Hibbing, MN 55746.  The program runs from 9:00am until 3:30pm Monday through Friday.  Insurance coverage for the program is determined at the time of intake.  Medicare and a variety of private insurances provide coverage for the service.
